Darko Šimičić
DARKO ŠIMIČIĆ (b. 1957) is an art-critic and curator based in Zagreb, Croatia.
He is co-founder of the Tomislav Gotovac Institute in Zagreb where he is currently working as researcher and secretary. Previously he worked at the Soros Center for Contemporary Art / Institute for Contemporary Art (1996 – 2006) and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb (2006 – 2009). He is a member of AICA.
In the late 1970s he began collecting a personal archive and creating a collection of works by contemporary Croatian artists. He has curated numerous exhibitions at home and abroad and wrote numerous texts and reviews. He gave a series of lectures at home and abroad.
His professional interest is focused on historical avant-gardes (Zenithism, dada, Bauhaus, photomontages) and art in Croatia in 1960’s and 1970’s (Gorgona, Mangelos, Group of Six Artists, Tomislav Gotovac).
He was a member of project team of Tomislav Gotovac’s retrospective (Rijeka, Ústí nad Labem, Ljubljana, 2017 – 2018) and co-editor of the books Tomislav Gotovac: Crisis Anticipator (Rijeka, 2017) and Tomislav Gotovac: Life as film experiment by Slobodan Šijan (Zagreb, 2018).
