Frano Dulibić
Frano Dulibić was born in Zagreb (1961) where he finished elementary and Classical Grammar School. He studied art history and ethnology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. From 1991 to 1993 he worked at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research. Since 1993 he has been working at the Art History Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, teaching the compulsory course Introduction to Art History. Since 1993 he has also been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, to students attending art teaching and restoration programmes. He obtained his PhD degree in 2002 and was elected as associate professor in 2010 and full professor in 2016. From 2004 to 2006 he was Head of the Art History Department and since 2006 he has occupied the Chair of Art History Education. Since 2003 he has been teaching elective courses at BA and MA levels (History, kinds and characteristics of Illustration, Central European Painting and Sculpture, History of Caricature) as well as courses of the doctoral programme in art history within the department.
In 2001 he went on the professional development scholarship History and Theory of Art after the Cultural Turn at the Central European University in Budapest, and in 2004, was on the scholarship of the Goethe Institute for a study visit in Berlin. Within the Erasmus+ programme, he held lectures at the University of Lund, Sweden, during November 2016.
He has published professional and scientific papers in various publications, participated in conferences, research projects and exhibitions. From 1999 to 2005 he was a researcher for the German Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon (K. G. Saur Verlag). During longer period he participated in scientific projects as Painting and sculpture from 16 to 20th century, led by Ivanka Reberski, Croatian art of 19th and 20th century in European context led by prof. Zvonko Maković, Croatian art from Classicism to Postmodernism, led by prof. Zvonko Maković, Modern and Contemporary Croatia: European Models and Croatian Identities, led by prof. Božena Vranješ Šoljan. From 2014 to 2017 he collaborates on the project Croatia and Central Europe: Art and Politics in the Late Modern Period (1780-1945), led by associate prof. Dragan Damjanović.
From 2008 until 2015 he has published four books: Omer Mujadžić (Painter Omer Mujadzic), Zagreb, Školska knjiga, 2015, Slikarstvo Vladimira Varlaja (Paintings of Vladimir Varlaj), Zagreb, Institut za povijest umjetnosti, 2011, Povijest karikature u Hrvatskoj do 1940. godine (History of Editorial Cartoon and Caritacure in Croatia Before 1940), Zagreb, Leykam international, 2009, Oto Reisinger, Zagreb, Galerija Klovićevi dvori, 2008.
The areas of his research interests include painting in the first half of the 20th century, caricatures and cartoons, illustrations, comic strips and public art.
