Croatian Section of the International Association of Art Critics – AICA also has an abbreviated name, AICA Croatia or HS AICA. The organisation HS AICA is part of the international non-governmental organisation AICA, which is an acronym of its French name (Association Internationale des Critiques d´Art), i.e. the International Association of Art Critics based in Paris, founded at the UNESCO Congress in 1949 and operating since 1950. Through membership in HS AICA, our members also become members of AICA International. HS AICA therefore also uses its English name, International Association of Art Critics – Croatian Section, and its name in French, Association Internationale des Critiques d´Art – Séction Croate. Croatian Section of AICA was founded in 1992 with Marijan Susovski as the first President, and with previous decades-long continuity within the framework of the national section of former Yugoslavia. In 1954, not long after the international association had been founded, the Yugoslav section of AICA was established, the first Congress of which was held in Dubrovnik in 1957. Such long-standing tradition of HS AICA also implies the Association’s high level of authority in society in the field of art criticism and visual arts and culture in general, and brings with itself an array of other advantages specified in this document.
