AICA Croatia in 2019/2020 // Overview
AICA Croatia in the year 2019 established the new website hsaica.hr/. We organised four public dialogues with our prominent members-doayens (AICA: Dialogues, as an archive of living memory). It was photographed and video recorded by the artist Bojan Mrdjenovic. Also, we organised another seria of workshops How to write on Contemporary Art, and What is Contemporary Art? On December 17, 2019, we organised the simposia Writing about the Contemporary Art. In May we published the book of Evelina Turković “The Sound of Art – The Art of Sound: A Collection of Texts on Sound Art” with texts of Rudolf Arnheim, Brandon LaBelle, Dan Lander, Lílian Campesato, Helmuta Draxler and Heidi Grundmann (https://hsaica.hr/projekti/ objava-knjige-slika-od-zvuka- zvuk-u-vizualnim-umjetnostima/ ).
In this year, on March 22 Zagreb was hit by the strong earthquake, the broader center of the city was seriously damaged then, as well as museums and galleries in, mainly built until 1930es and protected buildings, such as Museum of Applied Arts. The help of international community did not come at all, due to Covid19 situation and also because of the mayor of Zagreb’s and state premier’s silence. More informations are available on: https://icom.museum/en/
Also, on April 28, philologist Neven Jovanović, the new Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciencies of the University of Zagreb, was not confirmed by the Rector and, following the rectors oppinion, the Senat of the University, which is a serious violation of democratic procedures.
Also, we are witnessing the destruction of a large number of partisan monuments – World War II.
